It is easy to lose oneself in deceptive beauties, especially when they offer an escape from disappointing realities. I created this project with the goal of showing the seductive lure of substances or lifestyles that only lead to darkness and despair. Everyone seeks an escape from the world. Whether it be a good book, bingeing a tv-show or even having a few drinks with some friends, escapism is a natural part of everyone’s lives. The problem arises when the escape leads to destruction. The pursuit of euphoria can lead to paths of depression, isolation, substance abuse, toxic relationships and even suicide. It is through this project that I hope to bring awareness of the destructive despair found in the pursuit of euphoria.
